NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
The Senior officer is a distinguished officer with meritorious service throughout his career. Notably, in 2014, as Commanding Officer of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BURUTU, he arrested 4 Chinese Ships, namely LIADDA ZHIONG YU 15177, LIADDA ZHONG YU 15178, LIADDA ZHONG YU 15029 and LIADDA ZHONG YU 15030. The Ships were arrested for breaching international maritime laws and procedures by fishing illegally in Nigeria’s territorial waters. At the time of arrest, the 4 vessels had no immigration documents, while the 22 crew members had no passports. The suspects and the vessels were subsequently handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service for prosecution.
Rear Admiral Ibrahim also sailed NNS OKPABANA from USA – Nigeria, making him one of the few privileged Naval officers to have safely and successfully commanded a Naval Ship across the Atlantic Ocean, specifically from Charleston, USA – Florida, USA- Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – Dakar,Senegal – Tema, Ghana – Lagos, Nigeria.
Furthermore, in furtherance of his pursuit for excellence and commitment to adding value to the system, he observed that the NN had no documented record detailing the life on board a ship in 2015. To fill this gap, he sponsored and produced a video documentary on the life of Naval personnel on board using NNS OKPABANA, which he was commanding at the time as case study. The documentary, which is about 40 minutes long, highlights the typical life of personnel on board a Ship as well as detailed routine and basic drills on a Ship. The video clip has been adopted on the NN website since 2016 and has been adopted as instructional material for cadets and trainees in NDA as well as NN training schools. The video documentary is serving as training aid to educate viewers on professional routine practices on board a ship as well as inspire young cadets to develop interest in sailorship.
